Reymond Yanong, 101-5-1 (9 KOs) got his time to shine this Thursday against Clay Burns, 9-8-2 (4 KOs) on the undercard of the Top Rank on ESPN card. The two fighters came into the fight with intentions of impressing given the opportunity to be on network television. Both fighters showed that they out in the work in camp heading into their welterweight contest but it was Yanong who was able to impress two of the three judges in route to a split decision victory via scores of 59-55 and 58-56 in favor with one judge scoring it 58-56 for Burns.
Burns was intent on trying to outwork Yanong but found it hard to maintain the pace against the filipino who chose to be patient and work behind his jab as the active Burns sought a means for getting inside. Neither fighter seemed to hurt the other but Yanong showed that he was a bit more polished throughout the fight. He moves on to the next opportunity as he picks up his 11th and is back in the winning circle after suffering a loss earlier in the year.
