The main event of the Thompson Boxing Promotions 321 card, live on Sunday, July 26, in Omega Products International, Corona, California featured Michael Dutchover, 13-1 (10 KOs) taking on Jorge Marron, Jr 18-1 (6 KOs) in a Welterweight clash. Dutchover was looking to get back to winning after suffering his first loss in a September 2019 contest with Thomas Mattice.
Both fighters felt each other out through the first minute of round one as they gaged distance. Both fighters were active with the jab which helped Marron, Jr. in landing some right jabs to the body of Diutchover though nothing of significance was landed by either fighter. Dutchover was on the front foot in the second as Marron, Jr. chose to try and stay on the outside. Dutchover found some success with his right hook as he was controlling pace and distance.
Dutchover worked from the outside in the third as he continued to use his jab as the tone-setter which helped catch Marron, Jr. with left hooks from a distance. The momentum continued to remain with Dutchover to close the round. Dutchover continued to be in control to start the fourth as Torres to this point hadn’t been able to time Dutchover and found himself missing many hooks. Maron was able to land some shots in the last minute of the round when catching Dutchover against the ropes.
Both fighters continued to put their skills on display in the fifth as Marron, Jr. caught Dutchover with a two punch body to head combination halfway through. Dutchover started to find success with his straight right anytime Marron, Jr. tried to lunge in. Dutchover landed a solid right straight from the ropes to start the sixth round. Near the two minute mark Dutchover was able to get off a three-punch combination with one landing low on the belt line of Marron, Jr. saw his output drop as the round continued on.
Dutchover continued to press Marron, Jr. in the seventh as he seemed to be fully in his groove. Marron, Jr. caught Dutchover with a right hook stepping from a combination but Dutchover immediatly continued to press him. Marron, Jr. found himself against the ropes at times due to the pressure of Dutchover. Marron, Jr. did land a few clean shots as the round closed.
In the eight and final round Dutchover caught Marron, Jr. with a huge right hook to get his attention early. Dutchover continued to use his jab in the last minute of the round as Marron, Jr. tried to land but didn’t have enough offense to really threaten Dutchover who remained poised and closed the fight seemingly on top.
When the scores were read it went down as a unanimous decision victory for Michael Dutchover who will look to learn from and capitalize from this bout. The judge’s ‘ scores were 80-72, and 78-7 for Dutchover.
